A HOUSE DIVIDED - THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR

A House Divided (third edition) simulates the epic struggle of the American Civil War that was fought over the twin issues of slavery and states' rights. The period from 1840 to 1861 saw the issues brought to a boil, and in 1861 the nation became tangled in a terrible war that lasted four long years. This game covers the war between the North and the South from the First Battle of Bull Run (or Manassas Junction) to Lee's surrender at Appomattox (or Grant's surrender at Harrisburg...).

Each player becomes a leader of one of these two nations and makes the strategic decisions which determine the ultimate outcome of the war. Two sides fought the Civil War, and two sides play A House Divided. This game is played on a large mounted mapboard showing America, from the Atlantic coast on the east to Missouri, Arkansas, and Louisiana on the west. On the map are a number of boxes, each representing a city, town, or location important to the war. The boxes are connected by transportation-lines - rivers, roads, and railroads.

Contents of A House Divided - The American Civil War:

AXIS and ALLIES - D-DAY

Axis and Allies - D-Day is a new release of the most popular WWII game of all time! This version can be described as more tactical than the original Axis and Allies game. Instead of a global strategy, Axis and Allies - D-Day focuses on an area 100 miles on a side, smaller than most single spaces on the original Axis and Allies map. Individual units represent actual forces that fought on the beaches and in the towns. Every unit has a designator stating which historical military unit it represents, such as the 101st Airborne Division. When you lose a unit, you do not ever get it back. Because there is no economic activity in this game, you have only the troops at hand to make your victory happen. Worse, you must do it in a set amount of time. The Allies must launch their invasion and defeat the German forces within a limited number of turns or the Wehrmacht wins. The fate of the world hangs in the balance. Are you ready?

Contents of Axis and Allies - D-Day:
1 game board (20" by 33")
240 combat unit playing pieces

48 tactical cards

Axis and Allies - Europe invites you and your opponents to determine the future of the continent - and the world! The European Theater of World War II remains the same, but you control the events. AXIS and ALLIES - GUADALCANAL

Axis and Allies - Guadalcanal is the fifth variant of the popular Axis and Allies World War II battle games. In Guadalcanal, U.S. forces attempt to stop Japanese interference with U.S. supply lines by controlling airfields and destroying battleships and aircraft carriers. Each game generally lasts 4 to 6 turns, with each turn consisting of three phases: movement of troops and equipment, combat, and regrouping for the next turn. Battle outcome is determined by an ingenious "battle box" that automatically positions twelve dice for easy-to-read-results. Rules and movement are designed to affect crucial elements that were key factors in the historical campaign, such as air strip construction, troop and supply transport, and land, sea, and air battles. Guadalcanal is the historical counterpoint to Axis and Allies: Battle of the Bulge.

DIPLOMACY - 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION

Diplomacy is a board game of international (and quite personal) trust, promises, and outright treachery. It's the turn of the 20th century and the seven Great European Powers are vying for dominance. Players of Diplomacy represent England, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Italy, France, or Austria-Hungary prior to World War I.

At the beginning of each turn, players meet together in small groups to discuss their plans and suggest strategies. This is where alliances are openly or secretly made and orders are coordinated. Immediately thereafter, each player secretly writes an order for each of his or her units on a slip of paper. When all of the orders have been written, they are simultaneously revealed and then resolved. At this point, some army or naval units are moved, some are forced to retreat, and some are removed.

Each turn represents six months of time. The first turn is called a Spring turn and the next a Fall turn. After each Fall turn, each Great Power must reconcile the number of military units it controls with the number of Supply Centers it controls. This is when some units are removed and new ones built.

In order to survive, a player will need the help of others, and that will require negotiations, the forming of alliances, and promises - some will be kept and some will be broken. You've got an agenda, and a little back stabbing here and there can't be all bad, especially if it gets you closer to supremacy! The object of Diplomancy is to control the 18 Supply Centers, and in the end, the Great Power that manges to accomplish this tricky task through clever cunning wins the game.

Although Diplomacy is best played with seven players, rules for fewer players are included in the "Alternate Way to Play" section of the rulebook.

SORTIE BOOKSHELF EDITION

Sortie WWII Aerial Dogfighting Game is a creative simulation of actual dogfight maneuvers and high-stakes decisions that, in 1943, meant the difference between victory and flaming defeat. Game play is driven by an ingenious card system. One of twelve Aircraft Cards determines your plane and its special abilities. Each Double-ended Maneuver Card gives you two options to strategize your attack. The changing number of cards in your hand determines your all-important altitude. Card illustrations clearly indicate the number of hex-shaped spaces to move, as well your options for pivoting your plane. Climbing, Altitude, Shooting, and your plane's orientation all affect the outcome of every dogfight and, ultimately, whose will be the last plane flying.

The packaging and accessories in this game are of excellent quality, featuring a hinged, wooden bookshelf storage box, intersecting wood gameboard sections, robust metal planes, and nicely-illustrated cards. Quotations and historical references on the back of the box cover offer interesting historical perspective and respectful tribute to pilots and veterans for a lovely gift or an exciting addition to your game favorites.

TANNHAUSER

If you enjoy war games and pondering alternate realities, then this is the game for you! Tannhauser has been thoughtfully designed to engross the player into another world. One of the elements that makes this game unique is its "U-Chronic Universe", which is an alternate universe resembling our own, yet different enough to capture the players' imagination. In Tannhauser, the year is 1949 and the Great War (WWI) was never finished, thus fighting is continuing some thirty-five years later. Naturally, this has changed the course of history as the timeline continues on a different path. One of the characteristics that really makes this game stand out is its cutting edge "Pathfinding System", an innovative approach to expediting game play. It is composed of a clever targeting system (made up of colored circles with up to three different colored arcs) which is depicted upon the board game itself. This allows the players to determine action zones and the line of site for the entire cast of characters, hastening game play since players no longer need to requisite the instruction manual as frequently.
Tannhauser offers three levels of difficulty as well as four modes of play which are as follows: Story Mode, Domination Mode, Death Match, and Catch the Flag. These combinations allow for a multitude of gaming experiences. Players also have a comprehensive lineup to choose from when picking characters and their various attributes, therefore giving individual players different abilities while covering more bases as a team. There is an assortment of five good characters (the 42nd Alter-Marine Special Forces) and five evil characters (the Reich and Obscura Korps) and each comes with an individual character board to keep track of equipment, skills, and points.
The objective of the game is to keep the evil forces from dominating the world through unholy, nefarious means. Infact, the beginning of the game begins with a military briefing and you are given the mission, code named Tannhauser. To date there are seven expansion packs that are easily integrated into the game which adds to this unique gaming experience where no two games are alike!

Contents of Tannhauser:
10 Painted Character Pieces

The cheering crowds in every nation expect their armies to return victorious "before the leaves fall." But there will be no easy triumph, and as more nations are drawn into the conflict, the bloodletting will continue on a massive scale for four more years. Finally, on November 11, 1918, a defeated Germany will sign the Armistice, ending what we know today as the First World War. In The First World War you control the armies that battled for control of Europe's destiny. TWILIGHT STRUGGLE - THE COLD WAR

In 1945, unlikely allies toppled Hitler's war machine, while humanity's most devastating weapons forced the Japanese Empire to its knees in a storm of fire. Where once there stood many great powers, there now stood only two - the United States and the Soviet Union. The world had scant months to collectively sigh in relief before a new conflict threatened. Unlike the titanic struggles of the preceding decades, this conflict would be waged not primarily by soldiers and tanks, but by spies and politicians, scientists and intellectuals, artists and traitors. Twilight Struggle is a two-player game simulating the 45 year dance of intrigue, prestige, and occasional flares of warfare between the USSR and the USA. The entire world is the stage on which these two titans fight. The game begins amidst the ruins of Europe as the two new superpowers scramble over the wreckage of WWII and ends in 1989, when only the United States remained standing.

Well, now's your chance in this great satirical, geopolitical, global domination diversion, War on Terror - The Boardgame. Players start as an Empire with a couple of free villages and they can settle anywhere in the world. The goal is to liberate the world, ending fear and terrorism forever. The politics of the game can become complicated but nothing that a little neighborly aggression can't solve. There's political kidnappings, suicide bombers, nasty propaganda, and some intercontinental war thrown in for good measure. The Axis of Evil spinner on the game board comes into play to dole out Terrorist cards which can be used against your opponents to stop development of a country or, even worse, flow of it's oil revenue! It won't be long before somebody gets nuked. But that's okay. It's just War on Terror - The Boargame, right?
