This Mah Jong – American Deluxe set is a beautiful, easy-to-learn, modernized version of the original Chinese game. It includes 144 colorful resin tiles (1-1/8” x 7/8” x 1/2”), Jokers, and four wooden tile racks with pegs that hold the included scoring chips. Transport everything in a rugged ABS locking case (20” x 9” x 4-1/2”) that looks great and protects your Mah Jong pieces from loss or dings. An instruction booklet is included. F.Y.I. – Mah Jong means “Sparrow Tiles” (a reference to the “twittering” sound when mixing tiles), and is closely related to the Rummy family. There is little standardization in the rules of Mah Jong, and variations abound, by culture and by region. The major differences in the American version are simplified rules that forego much of the original Chinese ceremony, and a large increase in the number of legal special hands.
